I’ve always been fascinated with healthy morning routines. After all, every successful people seem to have one regardless of how busy they are. Why do most people don’t have any?

Barack Obama used to start his day 2 hours before his first scheduled event to work out, do some cardio and eat breakfast with his family. 

Tony Robbins spends one hour every morning during which he performs his healthy morning routine which he named his ‘’Hour Of Power’’ – plunging into cold water, doing some breathing exercises, meditating..

Richard Branson wakes up at 5:45am, when he decides to swim around his island before playing tennis and eat breakfast.

And the list goes on. I’ve decided to share with you today the healthiest morning routine that is common to all of these successful people so that you can extract the best of all of them.

The Perfect Morning Routine

1 – Drink Water (1 minute)

You’re probably shaking your head right now, thinking: ‘’Yeah, I already know this. Everybody talks about it. I know that drinking water is important.’’ But it can’t be stressed enough times.

Your body is made up of around 70 percent of water. Not only that, but your body is craving for water after your habitual 7-8 hours of sleep! Give it what it needs.

The fact of the matter is that the first signs of thirst appear only when your body is totally dehydrated. This means that even when you’re not thirsty, your body is wanting you to drink!

Of course, the benefits of drinking water are numerous: it can relieve headaches, delivers more oxygen to the parts of your body, flushes body waste, maintains blood pressure.. Even better, add some lemon to it and the list will grow even longer.

2 – Breathe (1-5 minutes)

Sure, your body has been made so that you don’t need to think twice about it: but is the way you breathe supporting you or destroying you?

Breathing has a direct influence on the autonomic nervous system, which is made up of two parts: the sympathetic nervous system, and the parasympathetic nervous system.

The former goes into action when under stress, whereas the latter is all about counteracting all the effects of the ‘’fight-or-flight response’’ triggered by the former. 

In other words, we can willfully influence the brain and the autonomic nervous system anytime. Interestingly, every physiological and emotional state has a corresponding breathing pattern. All we need to do is to speed up or slow down our breathing to feel radically different emotions.

Not only that, but each time you exhale, your body realizes toxins and metabolic waste from your system. When was the last time you enjoyed deep, long breaths?

3 – Wash Your Face (2 minutes)

Keeping excess oils, dirt and impurities away is essential if you’re serious about adding a healthy morning routine into your life. Not properly washing your face in the morning can clog your pores. This can lead to a development of serious acne, dryness and irritation from insufficient hydration.

What’s more, you wouldn’t want your skin to appear oily, dirty and greasy.. would you? It might not be the most effective way to influence the people in your life.

4 – Take A Shower (10 minutes)

When it comes to taking a shower, this usually raises a question: should you take it hot and comfortable, or cold and uncomfortable?

I believe that both have their own benefits: the former allows you to feel good and relaxed, whereas the latter’s purpose is to get you ready to face challenges by making you feel uncomfortable. Not only that, but cold showers have been shown to give you access to a wide range of benefits: increased alertness, stronger immune system, improved physical recovery..

You don’t have to think hard about it; both are great.

5 – Exercise (15-45 minutes)

Everyone knows this, but not everyone does it. Just in case, let me give you a reminder as your friend. 

On average, you need to exercise at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of intense aerobic activity for experiencing the following, well-known benefits exercise can provide: improved mood, better sleep, increased energy levels and much much more.

Insert some exercises that you enjoy doing into your morning ritual and see how it’ll change your life!

6 – Eat Breakfast (10 minutes)

Of course, eating your breakfast is non-negotiable for maintaining your health. We’ve all heard it, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. 

In order to kickstart the day with a healthy morning routine, I suggest that you go green and fill your body with the nutrients it needs.

7 – Journal (5 minutes)

It’s not a secret, journaling has been used as a way to let go of any form of stress for thousands of years. 

Simply putting down on paper your fears and worries, but also your dreams and goal can have wonderful benefits on your overall well-being.

Dedicating an entire diary to this practice and writing a few minutes per day can prove to be a very healthy morning routine.

8 – Plan Your Day (10 minutes)

I like to plan my day first thing in the morning, because I want to know what are my 3 most important outcomes for the day. The truth is that you could get a lot of things done and still not be productive.

Since results are what matters, you need to develop a plan too! What are the 3 most important and highest leverage things that you could do? These are the things that will give you the ability to recognize instantly when your day’s been a great day!

9 – Be Grateful (5 minutes)

Gratefulness is a state that a lot of people – myself included – have a hard time accessing purely and simply because we live too much in our heads.

Everyday, we wake up stressed out of our minds and go through the day by coming up with solutions to solve challenges. But what got you here won’t get you to where you want to go. You need to do something differently if you intend to feel from your heart.

Just gently close your eyes and ‘’think’’ – feel would be the most accurate word – about everything that you are grateful for in your life. It may be as simple as being alive, there’s no need to put it off because you ‘’don’t have it all’’.

When you enter a state of gratefulness, you experience an array of benefits: first, it improves physical and psychological health. Some studies have also reported that it can make you sleep better at night.

10 – Meditate (5-10 minutes)

Meditation is one practice I’ve been committing to recently and one which I’m trying to dive deeper and deeper with. 

Contrary to popular beliefs, you don’t need to sit in the lotus position for 4 straight hours in order to experience the benefits it has to offer (that should come as a relief.)

A few minutes each day can be your best ticket to living a healthier life because it has so many amazing benefits: increased alertness, increased focus, better quality sleep, enhanced self-awareness.. Really, there is no reason why you shouldn’t meditate.

The Best Healthy Morning Routine 

These are the best practices that all the successful people have in common. If you decide to add them all up and incorporate them into your newly-designed healthy morning routine, it shouldn’t take you more than 1 hour and 15 minutes each morning.

Now, I understand that some of you might find this too long for whatever reason: that’s totally fine. Just pick the practices that suits you the best and utilize them in your daily life!
